Why is Bangalore the Healthiest City in India?

Did you know that  Bangalore was named the Healthiest city of India? Yes, according to the survey conducted by India Fit 2019 Bangaloreans have the best health. This is probably because of the best hospitals in Bangalore that strive night and day to serve their people.

Here are a few healthy practices we should learn from them:

  • Duration of sleep:

Bangaloreans have the longest duration of sleep – a minimum of 6.5 hours of sleep per day. The right duration of quality sleep is necessary for every individual. Insufficient sleep can cause obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and may also lead to an early death. Sleep quantity and quality should be adequate for a healthier body and brain.

  • Exercise:

The survey also showed that the people of Bangalore are fitness-oriented. Simple physical activities like walking and jogging can improve our health to a great extent. Regular exercise helps in weight management, strengthens our bones and muscles, and reduces the risk of heart diseases.

  • Healthy Eating :

Switching from junk food to healthy snacking and clean eating resulted in good health for the people. Including lots of fruits and vegetables in our meals helps us meet our required nutritional levels. Controlled consumption of sugar and salt prevents various health conflicts like blood pressure,  heart strokes, etc.

  • Adequate amounts of fluids:

Drinking enough amounts of water and other fluids like fruit juices, etc., prevents dehydration. Since our body is made up of 60% water, it is important to maintain proper fluid levels in our body for healthy functioning. It improves physical performance,  helps in treating headaches and fatigue. Inadequate intake of water leads to kidney stones and other diseases.

  • Stress Management:

Every individual has stress due to various reasons like work, exams, family, finance, etc. Uncontrolled stress can result in health problems like heart diseases, blood pressure, obesity, weakened immune system, etc. Not just physically, stress affects our mental health too. It can lead to depression, anxiety, and various personality disorders. Practicing meditation, yoga, and regular physical exercises help in lowering stress levels. Also, spending time with loved ones, listening to music, reading books, playing games have shown better results.

  • Hygiene:

Good hygiene results in good health. Simple steps like washing hands regularly, especially before eating prevents the harmful microbes from entering into our body. Regular cleaning of hands and body is necessary to prevent the accumulation of dirt and bacteria on our bodies. Failing to do so can result in various dreadful diseases.

Oral and intimate hygiene is also important for healthy living. Brushing twice a day for a minimum of two minutes and flossing are important for preventing teeth, gum, and other oral infections. Intimate parts of both men and women should be cleaned regularly with clean water and very mild soap.

For women, it’s important to look after their menstrual hygiene. Sanitary napkins and tampons should be changed regularly – after at least 5 hours of usage.

Not just the body, the surroundings we live in and the food we eat should also be clean. Our residence should be cleaned regularly. Dust or dirt in our house carries different bacteria which can be dreadful.

Fruits and vegetables should be washed thoroughly before consumption. Drinking water should be clean and chemical-free to prevent waterborne diseases. One must follow good hygiene practices to be healthy.

It is always better to prevent ourselves from falling sick, rather than curing it later. Though there are many best hospitals in Bangalore, people of that city are following the method of prevention. They are choosing healthy alternatives for junk food, and are including exercises in their daily routines. Not just these, there are other steps that they follow for a healthy lifestyle.
